I'm off to NY
The hubby and I will be going to New York for one week. This is our first time seeing the Macy's Day Parade...so we can't wait. I still need to go home and pack my luggage and pick out out something really comfy to travel in. For all of you that will be traveling as well, here are some items that are a must while traveling:
Designer of the Week: Aleloop

Q: How was making the transition from living in Argentina to the U.S.?
A: The transition from Argentina was hard and at the same time fascinating. I moved because my mom passed away and I needed to get away from Argentina for a while. I visited NYC, San Francisco and ended up staying in Los Angeles. At that time, I could barely ask for directions in English. So, the first thing I did was to learn English. And, at the same time I discovered the web. It was the mid 90s. The web was just starting. The web was a wonderful resource and I started studying everything I could get my hands on. I discovered that at the same time I was mourning my mom and was being able to absorb all this amazing culture, people, art, web, movies, language, food, everything. And I created soo many drawings and so much animation I became number 1 in yahoo at that time if you searched for animated gifts. It was a hard and fascinating time.
Q: What is the concept of your brand and how does music play a part of this?
A: Bring Out Your Happy is a fusion of fashion, music and pop culture. Every great design always comes with its own soundtrack. You see it and you can just hear what it is for that design. So for the Happy line, I took that literally, and called all of my musician friends, from all over the world. And asked them to choose their favorite character and pick one of their own original songs to be that characters music. The song had to have something to do with that characters' story or wearing style. And they had to pick the character the same way, the character itself or their story had to touch them in some way.
Q: I understand you created these designs while you were sick in bed; tell me about this time in your life?
A: That time of my life was not nice. I was in a lot of pain for about 10 months. I would be in bed, thinking in what kind of art I would create after this terrible experience. I thought I was going to draw skulls and bones and angry art. I had said to my self to draw everyday between 2 and 5 minutes. That's all I could do. Some days were 2 minutes, some days 5 minutes of drawing. But to the contrary of my thoughts, I started drawing these characters that were so happy, cheerful, quirky, and lovable, but mainly happy. They brought out my happy and that's how the name and brand came about.
Q: When did you decide you wanted to be a designer?
A: My mom had studied design and then she got pregnant became a housewife (it was other times then). She would design and make a lot of our clothing and briefly she had a clothing line. I learned how to sew very young and our favorite thing to do was to go to the store to get fabric. I remember holding up the fabric with her and imagining what we could make out of it. And then we would go home and make it and wear it that same day sometimes. I went to film school to make movies, there I realized I really should have studied animation, but there were no animation schools to go to then. And when I came to the States and discovered the web, and animation and motion graphics and became a designer here.
Q: What is the first drawing you ever did?
A: Since I was a kid…probably a princess. I drew a lot of princesses then. For Bring Out Your Happy, several of the first ones are currently in the line: Happy Lala and the Chihuahuas.
Q: Anything else you would like to share?
A:Two things that I learned along the way and are comprised in these two phrases: "Creativity always builds on the past" and "If it is to be, it's up to me."
Shopping: Scarves
It's finally starting to get cold in Miami, well mind you for us Miamians cold is about 60 degrees. But today I got to whip out some of my scarves. While trying to find some cute scarves I came across these called TDM Design. Their "Masino Due" Silk Chiffon Scarves are one of my favorites. They are hand-made and hand dyed in Nepal. I really like this blue one. You can check out all their colors at shopbop.com or at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Jennifer Aniston is on the cover of the December 08' Vogue issue wearing none other than a Narciso Rodriguez red dress from his Spring 09' collection. His collection has been quite the buzz. You might remember just a couple of weeks ago Michelle Obama also wore a Narciso red and black dress for election night. On the left Aniston is also wearing a Narciso top with Fendi boyshorts. Sun-Kissed Glow: Bronzers
Ever wonder how Fashionista Jennifer Lopez manages to have that sun-kissed glow all year round? Well then again she does have the money to take her private jet to some deserted island for the weekend to work on her tan. But for those of us that don't, here are some bronzers that will make you look like you just got back from Cancun:
Bargain Shopping: Jessica Szohr's Booties
We went on a search this past weekend to find similar booties like the ones worn by Gossip Girl Jessica Szohr last Friday at the Juicy Couture Flagship store launch. After searching high and low and mall after mall we finally found these black patent leather ankle boots at Forever 21. It has a chunky heel, which makes it very comfortable to walk in and has a side zipper. The best part of course was the price--they were just $29.
Old Navy: Plus Size Collection
Here is a dress for the curvaceous fashionista. It’s from Old Navy’s Plus Size collection, which comes in sizes 16-30. You can also wear it with a black cardigan or a pretty shawl. Pair it up with some sexy strappy heels, like these black shoes. They are on clearance at DSW for $39.94 (originally $60). They are very comfortable and great for those with wide feet (so you can salsa dance the night away).
Dress: Old Navy $36.50
Shoes: Diba Cicely Slingback Shoes- DSW $39.94

Mexico's Next Top Model
America’s Next Top Model is going to launch a Mexican version of the show in the beginning of 09'. Brazil was actually the first Latin American country to create their version and is already in their second season. There is also talks about creating other versions of ANTM in Colombia, Argentina and Venezuela if all goes well in Mexico. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Dominican Model Turns Heads
Dominican model Arlenis Sosa Peña has been turning heads. She’s only 19 and is already one of Oscar de la Renta’s top models, recently walking in their Spring 09’ fashion show. She is also the latest face of Lancôme and has graced the covers of magazines such as Italian Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Arlenis was discovered by Dominican designer Luis Menieur and signed with Marilyn back in March. It’s great to see some more Hispanic beauties on the catwalk.

Holiday Dress
Have you started looking for that holiday dress yet? Well here is a cute dress that will still leave you with some money left over for holiday shopping. It's a steal for only $22.80.
Michelle Obama in Hispanic Designer Dress
Michelle Obama took center stage last night next to her hubby after what was definitely a very historic election night. But most importantly for us fashionistas was “who was she wearing?” Her dress is from Cuban-American designer Narciso Rodriguez. The Hispanic designer really skyrocketed after he designed the wedding dress for Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. The dress, which Michelle paired with a black cardigan, is from his 2009 Ready-to-Wear Spring Collection. I probably would have liked to see her without the cardigan (but then again it was probably chilly)
