4 Easy Tips for Getting Bangs

As some of you probably already noticed, last month I got bangs (in case you missed it, see here). I must say, I was a bit skeptical at first. You see, the last time I got bangs I was in the 5th grade and they were done by my mom! She ended up cutting my bangs in the middle of my forward by mistake (not cute) so needless to say I swore on that day I would never get bangs again--that is until last month of course. I'm SO happy with my bangs. And it's the first time I actually got a haircut that people notice. Most of the time when I get a haircut I have to tell my husband "soooo do you notice anything different?" Definitely not the case with bangs. It's one of the easiest ways to change up your look and it doesn't cost you a fortune. Most hair salons will cut your bangs for about $10-$30 bucks.

But with that said, there's definitely a lot to think about before making the cut. Here are a few fool-proof tips to getting bangs:

Take a Picture with you to the Hair Salon. Get some inspiration online or in magazines and make sure to take it with you to the hair salon. It will give your stylist an idea of what you're looking for. Try to find celebrities that have the same face shape as you, since it's important to make sure the bangs will suit your face. There are tons of different styles to consider from blunt bangs like Camilla Belle's to side swept bangs like Reese Witherspoon. Pinterest is also another great source. Just make sure you do plenty of research before.

Try a Hair Piece. This is actually a tip I used myself before making the cut. I bought a clip-in bangs hairpiece to see how I would look with bangs. I even went a step further and took the hairpiece with me to the salon to show the stylist. It was pretty funny taking the piece of hair out of my purse, but hey I wanted to make sure the stylist knew what I was looking for.

Does it Fit your Lifestyle. This is something really important to consider. I never realized how much work/time bangs take in mornings, especially since I have frizzy wavy hair. Unless your hair is super straight of course, then you have nothing to worry about. But if you have wavy hair like me, keep this in mind before getting bangs. Are you willing to take the time each morning to blow-dry and style them?  Also keep in mind you might need to go to the salon every month or two to get them trimmed. You can always clip them back with a bobby-pin on those days that you are rushing out the door.

Ask your Stylist for Pointers on Styling. When getting bangs, be sure to ask your stylist for pointers on how to style them. What products does she recommend? What hair brush should you use to style them? All these are important to make sure they will look good.
