Maternity Style: Tips for Dressing Your Baby Bump

I was 5 months pregnant in this pic (empire waist dresses where lifesavers!)

Dressing an ever growing baby bump can definitely be challenging. I remember the first few months I was pregnant, I had such a hard time finding form-fitting clothes. But just because you have a bun in the oven doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style.

Here are a few maternity style tips to help you look fashion-forward throughout your pregnancy:

1. Look for form-fitting clothes instead of oversized clothes. When shopping for maternity clothes, look for pieces that are form-fitting and that highlight your shape. Contrary to belief, clothes that are oversized will actually make you look bigger than you really are.

2. Look for an elastic waistband. When I was pregnant, an elastic waistband became my new best friend. I was able to wear my regular jeans up until I was 8 months pregnant. It basically holds up your unbuttoned jeans, letting you get away with not having to buy maternity jeans.

3. Look for dresses with an empire waist. Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you have to wear maternity clothes. Dresses with an empire waist are great non-maternity options. The empire waist highlights the narrowest part of your waist and flows over your baby bump, making it comfortable yet stylish.

4. Play with accessories. Accessories are a great way to dress up any outfit (plus they have no size). Add some instant oomph by adding a statement necklace or some statement earrings. 5. Maxi dresses are still all the rage. I practically lived in my maxi dress while I was pregnant. You can easily transition a maxi dress from day to night with a simple swap of accessories.
