Travel: Key West: Ernest Hemingway House

This past weekend I took a trip to Key West to celebrate my hubby's birthday. We had such a  relaxing time. I think I probably gained 10 pounds from all the Conch Fritters and Key West Pink Shrimp I ate. One of my favorite things we did was take a tour of author Ernest Hemingway’s house. Although I had been to Key West many times before, this was the first time I visited the house. Here is a picture of me standing in front of the house (BTW…this was the first time that I wore this Roxy Romper...I'm glad I did too, I was sooo hot that day..about 105 degrees).

While we were taking the tour, we came across this wall where Hemingway had pictures of all his FOUR wives. Something that I thought was interesting was that his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, was actually a fashion editor for Vogue Magazine. They both met in Paris, where she was working, and then moved to Key West.

Another fun little story that the tour guide told us about the fashion editor was that she had the first swimming pool in Key West built. She had it done as a surprise for Hemingway while he was away in Spain and spent $20,000. When he got back he was supposedly not very happy about the cost of the pool and told her she might as well have his last cent and handed her a penny, which she then embedded in the cement. Here is a pic. of the penny still embedded in the cement till this day.

Here is another picture of Hemingway’s typewriter and the room where he did most of his lifetime’s writing. Anywho, thought I’d share some pics, plus what I learned. How was your weekend?
