Real Talk: 5 Tips for Getting Through Grief

Over the past several months, I've received several beautiful emails from readers telling me how much they admire my strength through my loss. In those emails, I also get asked a lot for advice on how to get through grief as many of you are also going through your own loss (whether it's a loss of a loved one, divorce ...etc.)

So I thought I would share some tips I recently shared with a reader in hopes it will also help someone out there. So without further adieu, here are 5 tips to help you navigate through grief.

Tip #1 Trust God- This for me, has by far been the most important thing in my journey. I remind myself that God is still in control, even when things happen that I can't explain. I learned to trust him fully and surrender everything to Him. He's my Rock! Once I did that, he filled my heart with a peace that surpassed all understanding and I know He can do the same for you.

Tip #2 Don't get stuck- It's okay to feel sad, just try not to stay stuck in that place for too long. Try to remind yourself of all the beautiful things you still have in your life and all the things you still have to be grateful for. Practice waking up each morning with a grateful heart.

Tip #3  Allow yourself to feel happiness- Many times when people go through loss (especially in the early stages) they feel guilty for feeling happy. It's OKAY to to let yourself find moments of happiness and peace. Refer back to Tip #2.

Tip #4 Surround yourself with people that love you- Try to surround yourself with people that care for you and will listen to you. Vent if you need to. You can also try attending a Grief Support Group in your community or look for one on Facebook.

Tip #5 Live Your Life- Overall I just try to remind myself that life is very short. I've been able to use loss to propel myself to live my best life possible. I enjoy every single day to the fullest, because I know tomorrow is not guaranteed.

I hope these tips help and remember, I'm always just an email away.

xx,
Carmen
