Travel: 5 Reasons Why I Love the St. Regis, Punta Mita (and why you should visit soon)

This summer, I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful St. Regis in Punta Mita, Mexico. The tropical beachfront community is located in the state of Nayarit, approximately 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta airport. I visited in August and the weather was just perfect. A little bit humid, but something that I’m used to, living in Miami. I had always heard great things about Punta Mita (especially that it’s a favorite among Hollywood A-listers like George Clooney haha). In case you’re planning a trip to Mexico, here are a few reasons why I love the St. Regis in Punta Mita + some helpful tips.

How to get there: To get there, we took a flight from Miami to Mexico City (which was approx. 2.5 hours) and then from there I took another flight to Puerto Vallarta (approx. 1 hour and 26 minutes). Once I arrived at Puerto Vallarta airport, a driver holding a St. Regis sign greeted us and whisked us away to our resort. It was about a 45 minute drive, which wasn’t too bad. I highly recommend that you book a private transfer, which I did directly with the hotel.

As soon as I arrived to Punta Mita you immediately can tell how exclusive it is. The entire area is gated and includes residential communities, 2 resorts (including the St. Regis) and a golf course. Everyone pretty much gets around by golf cart. If you wanted to go to the town, which is called Punta “de” Mita, you would definitely need to take a taxi. I really didn’t find a need to leave the resort—not even once. For me, those are the best types of vacations. The staff at the St. Regis was so nice and friendly. They greeted us with a delicious drink and a fresh cold towel to freshen up as soon as we arrived. I also love that there wasn’t really a check-in counter. You just basically grab a seat in the lobby, overlooking the beautiful pool and one of the attendants check you in.

The Room: The room itself was absolutely stunning and spacious. I stayed in a Junior Suite, which had a view of their lush and perfectly landscaped gardens. The decor also captured the essence of Mexico perfectly. The property has only 120 rooms, so it still feels very intimate. My favorite feature of the room however had to be the bathroom. It had a freestanding soaking tub, a rainfall shower and even a private outdoor shower. I loved it so much I even took pictures as inspiration when I redesign my own bathroom back home.

The Service: Best of all, the rooms also come with butler service. They’ll pack and unpack your luggage if you’d like, assist with garment pressing (the first 2 are complimentary) and offer coffee or tea anytime you’d like. It’s like having your own personal concierge.

The Food: Another thing that I LOVED about the resort was the food. The resort really does take its dining seriously. If you’re a foodie, you definitely won’t be disappointed. On my second night at the resort, I had dinner at the Carolina restaurant, which is a AAA Five Diamond Award winner. They offer modern Mexican cuisine in a casual elegance setting. If you know me, you know that I’m all about restaurants that source local and organic ingredients and this restaurant does just that. The culinary team develops evolving menus using only the freshest locally sourced ingredients. One of my favorites was the quail tacos with hoja santa, foie gras and chili adobo—delicious!

The breakfast buffet at the Sea Breeze restaurant is large and had plenty of options, I had to try to contain myself haha. You can also order from the menu if you prefer.

After a day at the beach or pool, I also recommend heading over to Mita Mary Bistro Boat to grab some lunch (fish tacos are always my choice) underneath the palm trees.

There's several things to do:

Beach/Pool: My days were spent pretty much relaxing by the beach and pool. I love that guests can choose among the two-level family pool, the infinity edge Beach Club Pool or the two-level infinity edge adult pool. It also never felt crowded, which was great. You can also rent a kayak or paddle board.

Quick Tip: The beach is a bit rocky, so be sure to bring some reef shoes. Or better yet, the resort offers guests reef shoes (you can borrow for free) in case you forget yours.

Classes: Looking for some fun activities? The resort offers complimentary activities daily that are a treat for guests, such as a guacamole making class, dance lessons or even how to make a delicious Mexican cocktail.

La Tortuga Children’s Club: The resort is also kid-friendly (which I LOVE) and offers a children’s club for kids ages 5-12. There they can enjoy everything from painting lessons, treasure hunts or even learn how to make a piñata. Get this, there is even a Children’s SPA!

Overall, we had a wonderful experience. At the end of our stay, we left feeling relaxed and refreshed. And I mean, who doesn't need that from time to time right? If you're looking for a five-star experience and service, then you can't go wrong with The St. Regis Punta Mita.
