4 Tips to Control Frizz this Summer

Living in Miami, you quickly become an expert in controlling frizzy hair, since it's pretty much hot and humid all-year-round. This summer, for some reason it seems to be hotter than usual. I literally walk outside and I'm drenched in sweat! I've also been doing a lot of traveling and exposing my hair to the pool and beach (which has taken a toll on my hair). I've been switching up my hair routine, and fortunately I've been doing a much better job at keeping my frizzies at bay.

Here are a few tips that might also help you tame your frizz this summer:

Look for a Hydrating Shampoo: Remember, what your hair really wants is hydration. When it doesn't get it, your hair will get the moisture from somewhere else, like the humidity in the air (that's when frizz occurs). So look for a hydrating shampoo and conditioner with natural oils, like this one from the Garnier Whole Blends line, which has Coconut Oil (from the South Pacific) and Cocoa Butter (from West Africa). It's also paraben-free and I love that it leaves my hair feeling silky smooth.

Use a Leave-In Conditioner: After using a hydrating shampoo, it's also important to use a leave-in conditioner.  I've been using this Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing Leave-in Conditioner with Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter. It leaves your hair feeling moisturized and doesn't weigh it down. Then I style my hair as usual.

Use a Curling Iron: This one may sound counterintuitive, but using a curling iron can help make frizz less noticeable since it gives them shape and helps smoothen them out. I like to use a 1 1/2 inch barrel.

Go for a Braid: When in doubt, go for a braid. This is my go-to hair style of the summer and it looks super chic. Here's a post I did last year on 6 braids to try this summer.
