One Dress: Two Looks

I love it when the clothes I have serve multiple purposes. That's when I feel I really get my money's worth. For example here is a simple yellow dress that can be dressed up for work, dressed to go to dinner or even for a night out in the town. The first look pairs the dress with a black blazer, gold sandals and black and gold accessories to add a chic look. This is perfect for going to dinner and if you have some plans of hitting the town afterwards, you can simply remove the blazer and exchange the earrings for smaller ones and instead add a long statement necklace. (You don't want to overdue it with accessories.I always like to keep my jewelry at two...for example if I have big earrings and a big necklace..I won't due a big bracelet and vice versa). The second look uses the same yellow dress paired with a striped collar shirt and navy blue cardigan...it's all about layering. This look is perfect for work and I just love the way navy blue and yellow go together. You can also add a skinny belt around the waist if you'd like. These looks can be done with your favorite color of dress, not necessarily yellow. Instead of yellow maybe use a red dress. It's all about getting your money's worth when you buy clothes.

Trip Down Fashion Memory Lane...What was I Thinking?

Don’t you just love it when you look at old pictures and think “Seriously…what was I thinking with that outfit?” We all have that one picture (or maybe a couple) that we keep hidden away in a dark place and hope they never see the day of light….ahem like my prom pictures (2002). I almost died when my “friend” decided to tag me on facebook with my old prom pictures…ahhhhhh. Well yesterday, some friends and I from work starting talking about all the stuff we use to wear back in the day. It brought back some fun memories, plus some good laughs. Like my navy blue Nautica jacket. That was supposedly the “in” thing back in the 90’s . I even had a friend that had one in three colors…yellow, blue and green. We also admitted to wearing jean overalls and cartoon character t-shirts like Tweety Bird. We seriously thought that we looked so cool…but seriously what were we thinking. Then with the release of the Clueless movie I instantly channeled my inner “Cher” (played by Alicia Silverstone) and wore plaid skirts, knee highs and mary janes. I even remember wearing cropped tops that said “Whatever” on them…lol. I must admit it is fun to reminisce about the things we one day wore. So how about we take a trip down fashion memory lane..shall we? Let us know what you use to wear that now makes you think….”What was I thinking.” I might even make a trip to my mom’s house this weekend and dig up some old pictures of me and share them with you.

Fit Flops..Burning Calories While you Walk?

Although it might look like your regular sandal, the makers of FitFlop say this sandal was designed to be a workout while you walk. The idea is that the rubber sole of the sandal helps tone your legs because it creates instability during walking, which forces your leg muscles to work harder to maintain posture and balance. They come in different style from sequins, suede to bright colors and range from about $50 to $60. Did any of you try them out this summer? Do you think they actually work?

Julia Stiles Launches (Fake) Clothing Line

Julia Stiles pokes fun at celebrities creating eco-clothing lines with this hilarious video. My favorite is her fake creation called "Save the Last Shants" --a shirt that doubles as pants. Her inspiration for this was a homeless man she met that had taken his pants and worn it as a shirt. It's really funny...you have to watch it.

Travel: Key West: Ernest Hemingway House

This past weekend I took a trip to Key West to celebrate my hubby's birthday. We had such a  relaxing time. I think I probably gained 10 pounds from all the Conch Fritters and Key West Pink Shrimp I ate. One of my favorite things we did was take a tour of author Ernest Hemingway’s house. Although I had been to Key West many times before, this was the first time I visited the house. Here is a picture of me standing in front of the house (BTW…this was the first time that I wore this Roxy Romper...I'm glad I did too, I was sooo hot that day..about 105 degrees).

While we were taking the tour, we came across this wall where Hemingway had pictures of all his FOUR wives. Something that I thought was interesting was that his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, was actually a fashion editor for Vogue Magazine. They both met in Paris, where she was working, and then moved to Key West.

Another fun little story that the tour guide told us about the fashion editor was that she had the first swimming pool in Key West built. She had it done as a surprise for Hemingway while he was away in Spain and spent $20,000. When he got back he was supposedly not very happy about the cost of the pool and told her she might as well have his last cent and handed her a penny, which she then embedded in the cement. Here is a pic. of the penny still embedded in the cement till this day.

Here is another picture of Hemingway’s typewriter and the room where he did most of his lifetime’s writing. Anywho, thought I’d share some pics, plus what I learned. How was your weekend?

Are you Less Likely to Buy Something if Sales Assistant is Attractive?

Do you get put off when shopping if the sales assistant is attractive? Researchers found that women were less likely to buy an item if they thought the shop assistant was better-looking than them. Biana Price, of the University of South Australia said "Women are biologically competitive if they consider that a female is a direct social threat. Retailers often think that beautiful is better. In the same way they use a celebrity to endorse a product, they hire a beautiful girl thinking it reflects the brand and other women will want to be like her. It doesn't always work like that." Using photographs of hypothetical shop workers - both attractive and unattractive - she asked 341 women whether they would consider buying cosmetics or a mobile phone from them.
If they considered the assistant to be better looking than them, they were less likely to buy something, the results showed. Let's be honest for a sec. ladies, have you ever put off buying something because the sales associate was attractive or does this not matter whatsoever? Let us know what you think.
