Macy's Hispanic Heritage Month Event

This Saturday (October 5th at 2pm), I'll be co-hosting a special event at the Macy's in Dadeland in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and style Icon Thalia. There will be a fun fashion show featuring the latest styles at Macy's that will help you recreate her iconic looks. Also, with any $25 ladies' clothing purchase made during the event, you'll receive a Thalia CD and DVD as a free gift.  So if you're in the Miami area, please stop by and say hello! I would love to meet you.

Here's the flyer with all the details.

Happy Friday + Cobalt Blue Suede Pumps

Happy Friday guys! I've been trying to take this week pretty easy, since next week is going to be jammed packed. I'm hosting an exciting event at Macy's in Dadeland for Hispanic Heritage Month (more details to come). In the meantime, I'm so looking forward to the weekend and wearing these blue suede Nine West pumps I scored at  Marshalls for just $39. They're the perfect shade of blue, which is right on trend for fall. They'd go perfect with a pair of denim skinny jeans, a tee and a blazer. They didn't have half sizes, so I decided to go smaller, instead of bigger. Sometimes even with insoles, my shoes manage to slip off, so I'd rather go a little bit snug.

What are your plans this weekend? Hope you make it a good one.

xx,
Carmen

Look for Less: Loeffler Randall Booties

I typically don't own that many pair of boots (since I live in Miami and it's always so hot here), but lately I've been thinking about adding a pair of rugged and edgy boots to my wardrobe. I  like the idea of combining them with unexpected feminine pieces, such as a flirty blouse or a printed dress (similar to how Miranda Kerr did here). I recently spotted these  Loeffler Randall booties at Bloomingdale's  for $450, but for a fraction of the cost these Jeffrey Campbell 'Everly' Booties are a great alternative that won't break the bank. They also come in brown, which I'm having a hard time deciding which one color I like more!

Here's where you can get them:

Where to Buy:
Jeffrey Campbell 'Everly' Bootie, Nordstrom, $199

Beauty: BB Cream vs. CC Cream

By Contributor: Liz de La Nuez

Ok so I was very happy using my Laura Mercier daily tinted moisturizer which I used for years until one day Birchbox sent me a sample of a Dr. Jart BB Cream. Until this point I had not even heard of the BB Cream phenomenon. After some research I found out that BB Creams provide coverage with added skin care benefits like SPF and antioxidants. I was an immediate fan of the stuff and was thrilled to cut out some steps from my morning routine. Plus the BB Cream was a lot less dense than the tinted moisturizer that some days felt too heavy.

Then one day I strolled into Sephora to buy a dozen different shades of pink lipstick (true story) and after racking up my insider points I got to choose a free sample. Now if you frequent Sephora and own an Insider’s card then you can relate to the giddy feeling when the lady at the register tells you to pick an item. Oh the joy! The choices are usually pretty stellar and you can try out some pretty neat beauty products. Anywho-I chose an OLEHENRINKSEN just to test it out. Now CC stands for “color correcting” and the products are meant to address issues like redness or blotchiness whereas BB creams are like lighter foundation with a few skin care benefits thrown into it.

This specific CC Cream promises to lighten and brighten which is something that I usually look for in products so it was perfect for me. It also has just enough coverage to cover any imperfections. This CC Cream is lighter than my BB Cream and it smells amazing which I am guessing is due to the vitamin c that it promotes to have. I have to admit that I really like the CC Cream more than the BB Cream for several reasons. It glides on very smoothly andit makes my make up last longer. I have also noticed my skin getting brighter and it gives me that dewy look we all strive to perfect! I mean it’s lighter and it just does so many different things such as brightening, anti-aging and SPF 30. Don’t mind if I do.

Video: Fall Fashion with Marshalls on Univision's Despierta America

Hi guys, this morning I was back on Univision's Despierta America, talking fall fashion with Marshalls.   They have the latest in fall trends and designer brands, but you can score them for up to 60% less than department stores prices. One of the models was actually wearing the same designer dress I bought a few weeks ago at Marshalls (worn here) but in blue. I think I might have to go back and buy it in blue too--ha!

Here's a clip from the segment with all the looks, plus a picture from my iPhone from behind the scenes.

Hi guys, as some of you know, last week I was in LA for a special event at Macy's I hosted alongside the makers of ZYRTEC. I was on hand at the ALLERGY FACE Beauty County sharing tips with women on how to disguise those beauty challenges that often accompany allergies such as a puffy face, watery eyes and a red nose. It was so nice to meet some of you in person!

Here are some pictures of the event I thought I'd share. Hope you have a great week!

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Review

By Contributor: Liz De La Nuez

Target has had some awesome collaborations throughout the years, but this has been one of my favorites to date. I really like the broad selection of items in this collection from skirts to trench coats! I also really dig the fact that he included the guys, very few if any designers have done that.

I actually spent my Sunday Target hopping  looking for the key pieces that I just had to have! When I saw the pieces I have to admit that I was a little blown away by the look and quality of the items. They felt rich and were very well tailored. I also found that the clothes ran true to size. I actually gasped when I saw and felt the animal print sweater--oh my! The print was gorgeous and the fabric felt so luxurious. I think it's important to note that the sleeves are a soft silk material, which gives great contrast to the rest of the sweater.

Then I knew that I had to have the matching skirt to go with the sweater naturally. The skirt was also very well made and the fit was very flattering. Next, I moved on to the Boom sweater that Jessica Alba has been seen sporting all over town. And you know if it's good enough for Jessica....besides it looks ultra cool. I also really liked the modern shirt dress in the collection with yet another great print, but unfortunately it was sold out at the store. I am hoping some girl has nowhere to wear it to and returns it! My only disappointment from this collection was that there weren't enough purses to go around! I mean apparently I would have had to be at my neighborhood Target by 7 am to make the line to maybe get one bag. So I am now stalking them on EBAY.

Tell me were you able to get a bag? If so, which one, and are they worth the EBAY splurge? Did you score any other items? Do tell.

VF's Closet: Geeky Chic

Top: T.J. Maxx; Jeans: Express; Glasses: Vintage; Sandals: Marshalls; Belt: Forever 21

Here's an outfit I wore for a project I did with Starbucks (see here). It was one of the outtakes, but I still wanted to share with you. I've actually had these glasses for EVER and they're non-prescription. Do you ever wear glasses even though you don't actually need them? I think it's nice to switch it up sometimes. My husband says I remind him of a librarian when I wear them--ha! Sometimes I even feel more productive at work. Is that weird?

I paired them up with a button down blouse from T.J. Maxx and jeans from Express. This picture was taken 1 month ago and sadly these jeans don't fit anymore. They were my favorites! After having the baby, I've actually dropped below my pre-baby weight.

Here are some really cute non-prescription glasses you might also like:

Viva Fashion Turns 5 Years Old!

Viva Fashion is turning 5 years old today! Time really does fly by. I remember being just a newlywed and working a full-time job (back then I didn't even know what a blog was!) Now, my husband and I have been married for 6 years and this year we welcomed our first son! I'm so grateful to God for all the amazing opportunities he has given me. Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Your support means so much!

I'm also so grateful to all the brands that have allowed me to work with them either through collaborations or working as a spokesperson, as well as all the amazing people I've been able to meet because of my blog. And to my right hand man, my husband. I really couldn't do all that I do without him. He's my IT guy, my accountant, videographer, manager and my #1 supporter hehe. I can't wait to share with you some very exciting projects we have in the works and continue to share this experience with you. This might sound cheesy, but never give up on your dreams--really. It takes a lot of work and persistence, but never give up on your dreams. Sometimes it doesn't happen when YOU want it to, but always trust that God has even bigger and better things for you. Here's just a small glimpse of the past 5 years.

Day at the Park

Our little man is almost going to be 8 months old; time really is going by so quick. Entering this new stage in my life as a new mom has been nothing short of amazing. Here we are at the park going down the slide….it was his first time at the park! And yes, I am wearing WHITE jeans down a slide. I’ve actually had these jeans forever, probably since I was 20 and in college. Being able to fit back into my jeans (9 years later) and after having a baby was such an incredible feeling.  It’s like I got my “momjo” back and I felt comfortable in my own skin again. It’s so interesting to see how much clothing plays a key piece throughout different life stages. These white jeans hold such a special meaning to me. As a style expert, I always get asked how I make my wardrobe last, and I always say it’s definitely how you take care of your clothes.  One secret is using Tide + Downy + Bounce together to help keep your clothes looking newer for longer. The better you take care of your clothes the less you have to spend on replacing them too. It’s all about being a budget fashionista! And that’s how I can wear white down a slide, haha.

Do you have a favorite piece of clothing that holds a special meaning to you? Maybe it’s the dress you wore on your first date with your hubby or perhaps it’s a blazer you landed your first job in? I’d love to know.
