How to Get Mila Kunis' Oscar Hair-do

Mila Kunis’ romantic up-do looked effortlessly simple and feminine during last night’s Oscars. Celebrity stylist Mara Roszak, who styled Kunis for the event, tells us how to get her gorgeous look:
  • Apply TRESemmé Naturals Mousse to wet hair and rough dry, parting the hair to one side
  • With a 1” barrel curling iron, wave hair away from the face in sections
  • Brush out the curled sections with fingertips and form an “S” wave around the face
  • Pull hair softly into a messy chignon and spray it all over with TRESemmé Naturals
  • Finishing Spray for a soft holding finish

VFB's Closet: Renaissance

This weekend was pretty exciting. I got to cook with Chef Fabio Viviani from Top Chef during a Bertolli event. He was super nice and not to mention made an amazing Pork Tenderloin dish (I'll be sharing the recipe this week--delish!!). I wore this white top with a pair of jeans, which I've had forever. I like how the sleeves make this white top, not just a plain white top...it kind of even reminds me of the Renaissance era--doesn't it?

In my closet:
Top: MNG by Mango for JCPenney
Jeans: Armani Exchange
Shoes: Steve Madden
Belt: came with Zara pants

Hope you have a great week!

Carmen

Recipe: Braised Spanish Beef Short Ribs

So last night for dinner I made some braised Spanish beef short ribs in my crock-pot. It was a big hit with the hubby and super easy to prepare. I got the recipe from my Better Homes and Gardens magazine. It called for some Chorizo, which added a nice smoky flavor to the dish. Will be making this one again. Here's a link to the recipe.

Tips: If preparing in the morning and you're pressed for time, trim the fat on the short ribs the night before. It can be a bit time consuming.

Use "No Salt Added" diced canned tomatoes to reduce your sodium intake

Going to Short Lengths....

Photobucket

So part of my new year's resolution was to try something new with my hair, so a couple of weeks ago I finally took the plunge and made an appointment at Oribe Salon to cut it short. They're known for styling celebs such as Jennifer Lopez, so I figured if she could trust her tresses here, so could I right? They definitely didn't disappoint. My stylist, Steven was amazing and super talented. He had actually just got back from working on the Giorgio Armani Prive show in Paris. I got some great tips from him and from my visit so wanted to share... here they are:

  • Hot rollers are perfect for getting a natural wavy look. Plus you'll be able to save time in the morning getting ready (a one inch roller is ideal for short to medium hair and produces medium sized curls).
  • Applying a styling cream to wet hair before blow-drying can help tame frizzy hair (trust me, you'll need this if you live somewhere hot and humid like I do).
  • Look through some magazines and cut out pictures of a couple of celeb hair styles you like. It will give your stylist a better idea of what you're looking for.
  • Invest in your hair...if you spend a little bit more on a cut you normally couldn't afford, you'll see it will make everything you wear look great.
  • Overall, remember it's hair. It'll grow back, so why not try something new.
Also, if you have long hair like I did consider donating it to an organization like Locks of Love.

P.S. Steven also told me he specialized in curly hair.

So lately I've been all about adding more dresses to my wardrobe since right now mostly jeans and pants dominate. My latest addition is this Zara dress I scored over the weekend. I had a family get together yesterday and had one of those "what am I going to wear" moments, so headed to the mall. Almost an hour later I finally found this dress. I love the rope looking belt it came with and can see this dress getting multiple wears.

In my closet:
Dress: Zara, $39
Shoes: c/o Kohl's
Socks: J.Crew
Handbag: Heritage 1981
Sunglasses: Armani Exchange via Nordstrom Rack

Hope you have a great week!

What to Wear to Work?

Diana writes "Hi Viva Fashion, I just started a new job after almost 3 years of being out of the work force. I work in an office and I'm in need of work appropriate clothes. I want to look cute and not older in my office attire. On Fridays we are allowed to wear jeans so if you could also put together an outfit around that, that would be great. Thanks so much!

VFB: Hi Diana congrats on getting a new job. Here are two looks that we put together for you. I personally love skinny trousers for the office. Try pairing it up with a fun blouse or a printed top. Accessories are also a great way to spice up a rather boring look. Try a statement necklace or a bold watch. A great way to dress up jeans is to add a blazer, like we did here with this black Old Navy blazer. Finish the look by adding a pop of color with your shoes.

Pleated Trousers, Zara, $59
Leatherette Heels, Forever 21, $28

Evicta Watch, Endless, $55

Recipe: In-Your-Sleep Chili

So a couple of months ago I bought my first slow-cooker . It’s probably the best kitchen appliance I’ve ever bought for the money (under $40 bucks). I basically prepare everything in the morning, stick it in the crock-pot, leave to work and when I get home dinner is ready. You can make everything in it from main dishes to desserts. So….from time to time I thought it’d be nice to share with you some of these easy slow-cooked recipes. Here’s the first one I made, called “In-Your-Sleep Chili” from Better Homes and Gardens Magazine (click here to get the recipe). It was a success with the hubby and super easy to make.

I left it cooking for 6 hours on low.

p.s. You can buy a slow-cooker almost anywhere… Target, Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond (just make sure it has automatic turn-off). I bought mine at JCPenney.

Beauty Review: O.P.I Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous

The other day at the nail salon I decided to try this O.P.I. "Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous" nail polish. I was really happy with this shade. It's like a greyish/blackish tone with hints of glitter. I really like that the glitter really only shows up in the sun. I got it done three days ago and there are still no signs of chipping. I might just go out a purchase it for myself.

New Blog Post: Fly Away

Photobucket

Photobucket

A couple of weekends ago I took my little cousin kite flying. There wasn't really that much wind, so it was basically just me running around with a kite trying to get it to fly-lol. Not much success. Just a few away steps from the park was this dock with the most amazing view. Luckily I had my camera so took a couple of pics. I'm wearing a bird-printed blouse from Zara. I had seen it on a girl at a basketball game the hubby took me to. I thought it was super cute and almost went up to the girl to ask her where she got it (but didn't because the hubby gets embarrassed when I do that..haha). Anywho, a few weeks later I saw it on the Zara website and got sooooo excited. I paired with some Current/Elliot boyfriend jeans and Tarjay hat.

In my closet:
Top: Zara
Jeans: Current/Elliot
Shoes: Steve Madden
Hat: Eugenia Kim for Target

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

O.P.I.-Katy Perry's Shattered Nail Polish

So yesterday one of my co-workers wore the new Katy Perry O.P.I. shattered nail polish. I had heard about it before, but never actually seen it on. I gotta say it looked pretty cool. My co-worker told me you basically apply any dry nail polish and then apply on top of that a coat of the Black Shatter nail polish and it creates the shattered effect. Pretty cool huh? What do you think? Would you try this out?
